IT wasn't only the gaffer who was "gobsmacked" on Tuesday night and we, the players, are still trying to work out what happened at Grimsby.

It really was a horror show, a freak result and we all now just hope that has got it right out of the system.

The gaffer had us in watching a "video" nasty yesterday and it was not very pleasant.

I started the night on the bench and so watched the crazy first half and we all kept looking at each other and wondering what on earth was going on.

But all the time we kept thinking that we would win it, all the time we thought we were the better team. That is not meant as any disrespect to Grimsby but we have faith in our own abilities. We conceded an early goal, just as we did last season at Grimsby, but it was never like that match when they played like men possessed, fighting for survival.

When Gareth made it 1-1 I thought we'd go on and win it. It was the same when Mooro scored and then just after half time when it became 4-4. At the break we had all thought we would still win it.

So how did we end up getting beat? I still don't really know.

Obviously individual mistakes were made on the night but normally you would expect to get away with a few of them. But the crazy thing was every chance we gave them, they scored from. Marlon did not make a mistake but he didn't make a save either.

They obviously took their chances well but on another night there is no way they would all go in. When I got back home in the small hours I watched the goals on Sky for the first time and it was not pretty.

Arthur took a bit of flak after the game but if things had been different he would have made mistakes, they would have shot wide, missed or had efforts blocked and the errors would not have proved so damaging.

And I feel sorry for Mark McGregor because he came in for Coxy and it looks bad for him but I don't think there was much he could be blamed for. And he was definitely unlucky to have a penalty given against him. It just turned out to be an incredible night. I got on in the second half and what really hurts is being involved in a game that grabs a lot of national attention but being on the losing side. It was definitely three points lost, something I never thought would happen if we scored five in a match. The daft thing is we could have had ten. I was sure there would be only one winner on the night - but amazingly I was wrong.

HAVING lost two games on the bounce we need to pick ourselves up for the clash with Preston on Saturday.

Having lost those four games early on we have got back into a good position with a long run but we can't afford another night like Tuesday.

We showed last season that we are capable of going there and getting a result.

They aren't doing as well as people would have thought but I think it will be another cracking match.
