FROM Monday, November 4, police constables and one sergeant will be 'on the beat' as community support officers.
Burnley Superintendent Steve Hartley announced the initiative this week and said the officers will work closely with the people of Padiham and Hapton.
PAT'S Pantry -- the busy sandwich and confectioners shop, currently at 100 Burnley Road, Padiham -- is moving closer to the town centre. The new premises at 99 Burnley Road are opposite the town hall.
Owner Pat said the premises are bigger and more convenient for customers who come by car.
Parking is a huge problem in Padiham for retailers, with double yellow lines stretching right through the town. It has been suggested in the past that some shops higher up from Prestige Beds could be demolished to make parking spaces available.
PADIHAM'S Nazareth Unitarian Chapel is holding a meditation session tonight at 8pm. The church is holding a model railway exhibition on Saturday, from 10.30am to 4pm.
POPULAR Hapton couple Joanne and Jimmy Whittaker are holding a fundraising barbecue and bonfire on Jimmy's allotment in Hapton on Saturday, at 7pm.
Jimmy is 60 soon and both his sons' birthdays fall around this time, so they decided to celebrate by fundraising for the Burnley-Vitry twinning association. Tickets are £5 each and include supper and entertainment. Children, accompanied by adults, go free.
RESIDENTS on the School House Fold estate have asked the parish council to remove a 'kissing gate' on the estate which is attracting groups of rowdy youths. The parish council feels that if the behaviour of these youths becomes criminal, that the police must be informed by residents who are being affected.
