JUNIOR schoolchildren are to be introduced to the theatre of war, and the bravery of Leigh's WW2 heroes, thanks to a new drama production.
Leigh Community Sixth Form students will perform an original work on the war memorial to an audience of young and old in Leigh Conservative Club on November 14.
The A2 level performance studies group have devised an original piece of theatre "The Broken Promise" which will feature dance, drama and music about the Church Street memorial.
Children from Leigh's Sacred Heart Junior School will join veterans for the 1.30pm performance.
Drama lecturer Julie McKiernan said: "The aim is to make the children realise the significance of the cenotaph and the contribution of Leigh's veterans.
"The performance is deliberately in the week after Remembrance Sunday and promises to be an emotional event for everyone involved."
The veterans, who helped students to devise the work, will take along their medals and mementos to show to the children after the performance.
