GOALS from Scott Taylor and John Murphy ensured a fine victory for Pool against Plymouth. Coupled with the home win against Cardiff last week the win on the south coast pushes Pool right back there with the promotion chasers, trailing league leaders Wigan by only four points.

Steve McMahon remained loyal to the side which out-classed Cardiff a week before by naming an unchanged side to face mid-table Plymouth. That decision was a huge compliment to winger Paul Dalglish in particular, given that the newly-fit Martin Bullock could only find a place on the bench.

Pool started brightly enough although they were hampered early on by yellow cards to central midfielders Ritchie Wellens and Keith Southern. Striker Scott Taylor's control has let him down during the past few weeks when given goal scoring opportunities and he showed that in a chance on eight minutes.

But the ex-Bolton striker made amends by firing home a knock down from John Murphy to give the Seasiders the lead on 16 minutes.

A couple of minutes later the home side had a chance to draw level when David Norris was brought down just outside the box. But Alas Wotton's pile driver went high over the bar to the relieved Phil Barnes.

The Seasiders' defence was looking good but Pool still needed a second to make things more comfortable. Scott Taylor did exactly that, knocking in from close range after a Ritchie Wellens shot was only parried.

Pool started the second period well but a sloppy error cost Pool a goal and caused a considerable spell of pressure from the home side in the 20 minutes that followed. The goal came from Marino Keith, firing home with his first touch of the game after Pool had failed to clear an Argyle corner.

The goal proved a rally call for the home side who continued to attack relentlessly but without any joy. Evans, Norris and Keith all came close to equalising but the Seasiders' stubborn defence held strong.

Pool sealed the win two minutes from time thanks to John Murphy after some fine work on the wing from sub Danny Coid.
