CAMPAIGNERS were to demonstrate against US attacks on Iraq with banners and placards in a march through Burnley town centre today
Organised by the Stop The War Coalition, the rally is one of numerous similar events taking place on Hallowe'en night across the country.
Protesters against war were meeting in the Peace Garden outside Burnley's Central Library at 4.30pm and organisers planned to lead a march through the town centre at 5.30pm.
They were then to return to the garden at around 6pm to allow people to speak out against the attacks on Iraq.
Mary Black, a co-ordinator of the rally and march, said: "It is part of a national day of action against attacks on Iraq.
"Burnley people who don't want the war want to be part of this and it is important to keep up the demonstrations to try to make a difference.
"There will be an open megaphone for people to make speeches and we have written to various unions and political parties who may take to the stage.
"We are also hoping to be a bit imaginative with a few Hallowe'en themes such as Stop the War carved into pumpkins."
