TOTTENHAM watched Burnley's 6-5 defeat at Blundell Park on Tuesday night but they are taking nothing for granted for the cup clash.
Spurs visit Turf Moor next Wednesday night for a Worthington Cup third round tie and Glenn Hoddle's right-hand man John Gorman, who watched the Grimsby match, admitted: "That was a freak game and we do not read anything into it at all.
"We have had them watched in every game since we were drawn against them and we know what a tough test we have at Turf Moor.
"Glenn and I were at Leicester to see them play very well while Chris Hughton saw them on good form at Ipswich so there is absolutely no way we will under estimate them.
"They are a good side with good players. Tuesday night was obviously just a one-off and there is no way we will allow it to make us complacent."
The fact that the London giants have been so keen to watch the Clarets shows how seriously they are taking the third round Worthington Cup tie next Wednesday night.
Their last chance to see Burnley in action comes on Saturday with the Lancashire derby at Deepdale and the Burnley side began their preparations for the big game with a video nasty.
Manager Stan Ternent sat them down to watch the debacle at Blundell Park on Tuesday night as they set about restoring morale and righting the wrongs that saw them lose 6-5 on a night of mayhem.
The players were as shell-shocked by events as their gaffer and they are desperate to get it out of their system.
Ternent will certainly be hoping that Ian Cox will be fit to return to the starting line-up as his presence was desperately missed against the Mariners.
He and Arthur Gnohere have been in fine form in recent weeks but the partnership of the Frenchman and Mark McGregor had a torrid night with Gnohere being singled out for criticism by Ternent.
They ended the match with Graham Branch alongside McGregor at the back and you would have got long odds on that partnership ever figuring for the Clarets.
But Saturday is another day and a local derby, live on Sky television, is the perfect opportunity for them to get their season back on track after the disappointment of ending an otherwise excellent month with two successive defeats.
