Visitors to Carnforth could soon be able to explore the town's heritage by following a town trail if budding local historians take up the challenge of devising a past-packed path.
A new six-week local history course is set to start in the town on Friday, November 1, and tutor Diane Huddleston hopes that if students are keen on the idea, they will use the sessions to help fill a gap in the market and create a town trial leaflet.
She said the aim of the course would be to explore the history of the town, from its Roman roots through to its heyday with the coming of the iron industry and railway links.
"It would be nice if out of that we could produce something worthwhile and useful that visitors to the town could buy from local shops and use to take themselves around the town," said Mrs Huddleston.
But she added, it depended on what the people who signed up to the course wanted to do, and that if they were not keen on the idea of creating a trial, the six sessions would be involve touring around looking at historically important sites with some classroom work.
For more information on the course, which will be held every Friday, from 10am-12noon in the Carnforth Salvation Army Hall on Preston Street, contact the Adult College in Lancaster on 01524-60141.
