PEOPLE have been warned against handing over money for building work until it is finished after a man posing as a builder conned £360 out of a 92-year-old.
The incident happened on Monday between 11.30am and noon, when the pensioner opened the door of his home on Lymm Avenue to a man offering to repair his guttering.
The man agreed to hand over £300 for the work, but the conman asked for a receipt, and once inside the bungalow, he stole £60 cash from the bedroom.
He was described as being 40-45 years old, five foot seven inches tall, of broad build, with a square face and irregular teeth.
He was wearing a blue woolly crew-necked jumper, jeans, brown leather boots and looked untidy.
He spoke with an Irish accent, and left a business card, which inquiries have since revealed to belong to a Morecambe company.
Det Sgt Mark Salisbury warned people to be wary of handing over large down payments for such work, and not to pay until it was finished.
