Comeback kings Lancaster City hope to motor to victory in another home game this weekend.

The Dolly Blues host Vauxhall Motors, the club with whom they had a series of exciting clashes last term, as they look to build on two straight victories.

City now have a chance to press forward and improve on their current 10th place in the table.

The mid-table places are all tightly contested and only seven points separate Tony Hesketh's men from second-placed Worksop.

Saturday's game saw Burscough, who have struggled in recent weeks after an impressive start to the season, take a surprise lead after just 16 minutes.

Striker Gary Martindale won and then converted the penalty.

The big man, with a wealth of league experience at Notts County behind him, had a foray into the penalty area brought to a halt with a clumsy challenge from Jimmy Love.

His effort from the penalty spot left young keeper Andy Speight, who had another impressive game, with no chance.

Lancaster, however, never panicked and calmly played their football.

They got their reward on the half hour when Graeme Atkinson's free kick found Andy Whittaker in the penalty area.

Despite being tightly marked, City's leading scorer was able to turn an equalising volley into the net.

Lancaster got a grip on the game after the break and eventually managed to get their noses in front when good work from Phil Brown found Brian Welch in the penalty area and the diminutive striker finished well.

City could have extended their lead and managed to stay together at the back, showing none of the defensive frailty which has occasionally let them down at home this season.

Other City fixtures this week are a reserve clash away at Bradford Park Avenue on Friday night and a Lancashire Cup under 18s tie on Sunday against Chaddy End, at Carnforth Rangers, kick-off 2pm.
