THE shenanigans over the referendums in Eire have given rise to the joke if you don't like the answer, ask the question again.

The first referendum returned a NO; the second one, a YES. Why was a second referendum held anyway? If the first was invalid, then why is the second one not invalid also?

The farce in Eire has at least taught us that the EU is not to be trusted, and that the referendum as a means of measuring public opinion has been discredited for ever.
