MAY I write to let readers know that the Blackpool Forum is moving in its 59th year to a new venue at the Resource Centre on Whitegate Drive.
The new venue is well served by public transport and also has good parking facilities.
The Forum meets on alternate Friday evenings throughout the winter.
Unlike special purpose groups the Forum aims for a varied programme while seeking to be non-political and non-sectarian.
The programme this winter includes local interests with, in addition to the opening night, the Blackpool 5 year plan, the NHS Primary Care Trust, the Probation Service and the future of St John's Church, geography with talks on Antarctica and Belgium, history with Tutankhamun and the Cape Mail as well as more light hearted sessions such as the life of Gilbert and Sullivan. In short something for everyone.
Unlike TV which constantly seems to be dumbing down, the Forum is live, spontaneous and seeks to be educational, challenging and interesting as well as providing an enjoyable, friendly atmosphere. New members are most welcome.
We will be starting the season in the usual fine style on Friday November 8, at 7.30pm with Mr Barry Shaw talking about Blackpool's Hidden Heritage.
Come along. If you would like to know more please phone me on 866465.
Bernard Peel, Winchcombe Road, Thornton Cleveleys
