IT was indeed unfortunate that Jean Lewis (Letters October 3) had a bad experience with her breast test. I recall at least three previous screenings and can reassuringly say that I really didn't feel any undue discomfort.

However I think her decision to refuse future recalls is foolish.

On reaching my 65th birthday five years ago, I was informed by my GP that I would no longer be eligible for routine mammogram and smear tests.

I now find myself having to attend for a mammogram biopsy after the discovery of a lump in one of my breasts. Could routine screening have made a difference?

Talking about tests to relatives or friends is quite understandable, but why Mrs Lewis should care to relate her bad experience to all and sundry is beyond my comprehension.
