PLANS to build a skate park in Great Harwood are a step closer after councillors announced a location and possible funding for the project.
Proposals for a skate park and other facilities for young people were first discussed last year.
Members of Great Harwood Area Council have chosen a site on the car park on Town Hall Street.
Youngsters had said they preferred that site to two other options.
Councillors say the other two sites were too close to residential areas but the Town Hall Street site, owned by Hyndburn Council, is partly separated by boundary walls.
The site is already surfaced for multi-play use.
Hyndburn Council has been allocated £317,323 from the national lottery's Fair Share scheme, and would put in a bid to allocate some of the money to the skatepark project.
The council will arrange a feasibility study to be carried out and for funding bids to be submitted.
