Clarets keeper Marlon Beresford was hit for six for the first time in his career at Blundell Park on Tuesday night, and he admitted: "I am still shell-shocked."
The 32-year-old has played well over 300 games for the Clarets but has never known anything like the match at Grimsby as Marlon was fishing the ball out of the net half a dozen times.
"I have thought about it over the last two days and I know that if you let six in you must contribute a bit," he said.
"I have never let in six and I never even thought I would.
"But I really don't think I could have done much about any of them, I really had nothing to do. It was incredible and I have never been involved in a game like it.
"They all found the corner and it was the same for their keeper.
"Eleven goals in the game and not one can be blamed on the keeper. It seemed surreal."
But that match is now history and all the 32-year-old is concerned about is tomorrow's derby game and the first chance to set the record straight.
"To be honest it does not matter who we are playing," he said. "We just want the chance to put things right. We are all looking forward to it.
"We know that if we had defended anything like properly on Tuesday night we would have had an easy victory.
"Every time we made a mistake they scored a goal, it was ludicrous defending.
"We know that Preston have got some good strikers but there are a lot of good ones in this division.
"You just can't afford to have days like we had.
"We have to put the bad things behind us and take all the positives out of the game and there were plenty.
"From where I was standing our forward play looked superb and the finishing was excellent."
Beresford's position as the undisputed number one at Turf Moor was confirmed this week when Nik Michopoulos agreed to a two-month extension of his loan period at Crystal Palace.
He has had talks about extending his own deal with the Clarets until the end of next season and remains hopeful that a deal will be completed well before the end of his current month long deal, which ends after the Tottenham game on Wednesday.
