HYNDBURN MP Greg Pope helped honour the supporters of a booming Rossendale community centre.
He was among several guests at a naming ceremony for the Haslingden Community Link yesterday.
Mr Pope unveiled room plaques to acknowledge the support given to the centre by local businesses, the community and other groups who use the it.
Guests were given a tour of the facilities to see them in action.
Haslingden Community Link serves the education, health, leisure and social care needs of the community all under one roof. Based in a once-derelict school off Bury Road, the community centre is a hive of activity -- attracting more than 100 visitors a day.
Facilities include a computer suite, kitchen, caf, nursery school, rooms of various sizes and parking for 50 cars.
The caf is run by Jigsaw Pantry, which employs people with learning disabilities, while the main hall is used for dances, theatre productions, anniversaries and weddings and there is also a link-up with Accrington and Rossendale College who offer a number of courses.
The Haslingden Community Link was formed after grants of £280,000 from the government Single Regeneration Budget and £301,000 from the National Lottery were secured.
