WITH reference to the article in the LET edition of October 26 giving details of the appointment of Mr Brian Aldred to the newly created post of chief executive of Lancashire Police Authority.
May I suggest that the duties of the new post ought to be being carried out now by the chief constable, deputy chief constable and other senior officers of the force -- not to mention members of the Police Authority?
If finance is available for this new post, may I suggest the money would be better utilised in providing more officers on the streets of Lancashire.
Disorder and crime can only be reduced by more officers on the streets at the sharp end of policing.
R SMITH (Mr), New Bank Road, Blackburn.
