THE mascot for Lancashire's school meals service, HotPot, has called into a Hyndburn school to tell youngsters about another hot topic at the moment.
HotPot was joined by Coun Terry Burns, champion for young people, at Peel Park Primary School in Accrington to promote firework awareness.
All pupils in primary schools throughout Lancashire will receive Hotpot's Firework Code, a credit card-sized reminder of the dangers of playing with fireworks.
Coun Burns said: "Our school meals provider, Lancashire County Commercial Services, is not just about serving dinners.
"They also work very hard to pass on educational messages about healthy eating, healthy lifestyles and staying safe and Hotpot is able to do this in a fun way and the pupils respond very well.
"This new card scheme is a simple way of making sure children know about the dangers of fireworks which will be reinforced through posters and other methods."
HotPot's next task will be to promote new school menus featuring new nutricious choices for the colder weather.
Coun Burns was accompanied by Coun Jean Battle and the Deputy Mayor of Hyndburn, Coun Wendy Dwyer.
