MORE than £3,000 was raised over a bottle of wine and fine Indian food for the Magic Eye scanner appeal.
The management and staff of the Usha Restaurant in Rossendale Road, Burnley, organised a Charity Dinner.
Supported by the Mayor of Burnley, Councillor Gordon Birtwistle, and hospital staff, a charity auction and ticket sales helped raise a total of £3,057. During the evening two nurses from Burnley General Hospital also sold raffle tickets and items in aid of the Magic Eye Appeal raising a further £255.
Sheila Shaw, appeal co-ordinator who attended the dinner, said: "It was a most enjoyable evening with quite a buzz, everything had been well organised.
"The food was excellent and an auction was held of various gifts. An extraordinary but very unusual box of chocolates was the surprise of the evening bringing £45."
The appeal has raised £153,000 towards the £200,000 total for an endoscopic ultrasound scanner which will benefit the whole of East Lancashire.
The equipment is designed to offer a quicker diagnosis of stomach and oesophagus cancer.
Sheila added: "The amount raised was well above expectations and a marvellous outcome for the East Lancashire Magic Eye Appeal. Thanks are due to the many who supported the event both in providing gifts for the raffle and auction and for generously dipping into their pockets on the night".
