PADIHAM'S are one of only four NWCL second division sides still remaining in the Worthington Trophy at the last 16 stage.
However, the home side left it late to clinch their place in Friday evening's third round draw when, with the game looking likely to end all square, 18-year-old striker Martyn Thompson popped up to score the winner three minutes from time.
Ian Pilkington put Padiham in front in the 37th minute with a volley to make it 1-0, but two minutes from half time Glossop drew level through Andy Sherlock who outjumped the home defence to head past a stranded Kirk Marsden.
Marsden reacted well in the early stages of the second half to tip a goalbound effort onto the post but could do nothing to prevent Glossop taking the lead in the 70th minute when Gareth Greswell scored with an angled shot.
Padiham levelled the game at 2-2 when Craig Wilkinson bundled in a Robbie Smith cross in the 75th minute to send the tie into extra time and then three minutes before the two sides were due to meet in a midweek replay, Martyn Thompson swivelled and curled a shot into the corner of the Glossop North End net to put Padiham in the next round.
