Radcliffe Boro ... 1

Workington ... 1

BORO left it late on Tuesday night to salvage a point against a youthful Workington side.

A superb Neill Hardy finish in injury time beat the Workington keeper Steven Pape and the referee's whistle to send the handful of spectators at Stainton Park home happy.

The game started at breathneck pace and Boro, seemingly buoyed by their good showing against Chester, did most of the early running.

The goals threatened to rain in as both sides, mainly Boro, created but missed some early chances.

Jody Banim and Neill Hardy were looking lively in attack and the Boro were swamping Workington in midfield as they looked to record their first league win of the season at home.

However, this early promise seemed to fade and the visitors started to show their danger when both Glen Murray and the impressive Robert Ennis had goals disallowed after the Boro defence was caught flat-footed.

Livewire striker Banim was causing endless problems with his skill and trickery and although he created numerous chances, his final finish was lacking.

The second-half started slowly as both sides resorted to long ball tactics in an effort to break down either team's well-organised defences.

Workington winger Ennis was becoming more and more prominent in the game with his great skill and vision and it was his low shot that hit the post five minutes into the second half.

Then, Murray managed to scamper clear but a brilliant covering tackle by captain Simon Kay meant Workington would have to wait a touch longer for their opening goal.

It wasn't long, however, as Murray again broke clear on 73 minutes and slotted the ball past the advancing Danny Hurst, who had already made some outstanding saves.

Boro were shocked into action and they poured forward desperate to get that all-important point and Banim fashioned another glorious chance only to shot at the keeper.

The referee virtually had the full-time whistle on his lips when the equaliser duly arrived courtesy of classy forward Hardy, who kept his nerve to slot past Pape and save some Boro blushes.

Boro: Hurst 7, Kay 7, Whealing 7, Diggle 7 (Keeling 6), Bean 7 (Elliott 7), Spooner 6, Wilson 7 (Landon 6), Hardy 7, Banim 8, Price 6.
