A REMEMBRANCE service in Hapton whose traditions were under threat has been saved thanks to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
Organisers feared they would have to break with tradition if a bugler could not be found to play during the event.
A bugler usually plays the Last Post at the ceremony but this year the Parish Council was unable to find anyone to perform this after the regular musician went off to university.
But after an appeal in the paper a white knight stepped forward and offered his services for the ceremony on Sunday.
David Wetherall, from Colne, who used to play the bugle during his time in the army, read about the dilemma and decided not to step into the breach.
Parish councillor Nessie Hargreaves said: "It's wonderful news, David is a real knight in shining armour. We were going to play a tape of someone bugling but it is much better that we can have a live player.
"Everyone is really grateful to David for stepping in at the last minute."
