A BLACKBURN consultant has won a top award from the Royal College of Physicians in London for his work on tuberculosis.
Prof Peter Ormerod, consultant in general and respiratory medicine at Blackburn Royal Infirmary and Queens Park Hospital, has been awarded the Weber-Parkes Trust Prize.
The 100 year old award is made by the Royal College to the person they believe has made the greatest contribution to the treatment and scientific investigation of tuberculosis.
From his posts in Blackburn and at the University of Central Lancashire, Prof Ormerod has researched many aspects of tuberculosis.
Prof Ormerod was educated at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School and lives in Rossendale.
Earlier this year he delivered the Marc Daniels lecture at the Royal College of Physicians in London and in November will deliver the Robert Phillip Memorial Lecture at the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh.
