A NEW trophy will be awarded to the winners of the Great Britain and New Zealand rugby league Test series.

The three-match tournament begins at Blackburn Rovers' Ewood Park stadium on Saturday (kick-off 6.15pm), followed by clashes at Huddersfield's McAlpine Stadium on November 16 and Wigan's JJB Stadium on November 23.

The winners will be awarded 'The Albert Baskiville Shield' in remembrance of the man who got Rugby League going in both New Zealand and Australia, as well as introducing international rugby league to Great Britain.

Albert Henry Baskiville was a member of the New Zealand All Blacks rugby union side during their tour of England in 1905, upon seeing the 13-a-side code he was hooked, and helped set up the 1907-1908 'All Gold' tour as both an administrator and player. Without Baskerville the tour never would of gone ahead.

The Baskiville Shield will be played for each New Zealand and Great Britain Test Series after this year as well, as the Rugby Football League hope to grow to be as sort after and popular as 'The Ashes' is between Australia and the Lions.
