ANOTHER defeat for the Shakers in a game they could've won. Instead they lost 4-0 to Sheffield United.
Bury had the better off the game but couldn't take their chances as a combination of ill luck and good keeping from Burgin kept them out.
United did take their chances and the final scoreline was a travesty. It means another two points lost that may come back to haunt them at the end of the season.
The reserves lost 3-0 to Blackpool.
From the Bury Times of Tuesday November 1, 1977
SHAKERS went down to a rare defeat against fellow promotion chasers Wrexham at the weekend.
They went two down early on but Halmstead managed to pull his side back in the game. However, Wrexham were by now dominating and won through 3-1.
Bury have only scored 16 goals in 14 games, with only 15 conceded meaning they have sustained a promotion challenge on limited goals.
Hatton and Tucker were outstanding in defence and they will hope to transfer this form to the cup tonight as the Shakers aim to dislodge MIllwall from the competition.
In another defeat, the reserves lost 1-0 to Everton.
