FIT-AGAIN striker Matt Jansen will attempt to take another giant step on the comeback trail tonight when he starts a first team game for the first time since he scored in a 3-0 win over Fulham on the final day of last season.

Jansen has missed the last five months with a head injury sustained in a motorbike accident during the summer.

But he recently made his first team return courtesy of a substitute appearance in the 5-2 win over Newcastle.

And now manager Graeme Souness feels he is ready to speed up the recovery process still further by taking part from the start against The Saddlers.

Jansen was the Worthington Cup's leading scorer last season after his goals carried Rovers all the way into Europe.

And no-one would relish scoring again tonight more than the 25-year-old as he aims to show the football world that's he ready to undertake a more prominent role in the Premiership.

However, Walsall have a few useful strikers of their own in Portuguese front-man Jorge Leitao and his side-kick Junior from Brazil.

Leitao has already grabbed eight goals this season and he looks set to pose the biggest threat to Rovers tonight as they launch the defence of their crown.
