IN FORM Robbie Blake is pleased with his recent form but he admitted: "I need to score a few more goals."

The £1million striker is gunning for Premiership giants Tottenham Hotspur at Turf Moor tonight, determined to add to his five goals so far this season.

"It has been going well for me but I know I can get more goals," he said. "As a team we are creating an awful lot of chances and from some of the positions I have got into I should be hitting the target.

"A few of my efforts have been well saved but I should have been putting the ball into the net.

"In general in the last three games things have not gone our way but the lads are all still confident and we can't wait for tonight's game. There would be no better way to get back on track than to get a cup win over Spurs.

"We are all looking forward to it because as players you want to take on the best teams in the country and at the moment Tottenham fit that bill.

"I played against Spurs in the Premiership when I was with Bradford and they were great games to play in, against top class players.

"I think you know what you will get from a Glenn Hoddle team, they will want to play good passing football. But we can play a bit as well and we know that we have home advantage. If the fans can get behind us, well we could spring a shock.

"We feel we are playing well enough going forward at the moment but obviously we have been giving away too many bad goals at the back."

Blake's form in recent weeks has been a revelation as he has at last started to show why Stan Ternent was so keen to sign him in January of this year.

The injury and fitness problems are behind him and he explained: "I always said I would be okay when I started playing games regularly, getting a number of starts on the spin. That is the same situation for any player.

"Obviously having a long run breeds confidence and I know I have to work hard because we have got five strikers at the club all desperate for a game. That makes it difficult for the gaffer but those are the decisions he has to make."

After another lively display at Preston, Blake is a certain starter tonight and he is looking forward to a match he believes can be a springboard to better things in the league.

"There are still not that many points between us and the top sides in the league and if we can get a result tonight, that will help our confidence against Coventry on Saturday," he said. "We need to perform well against Spurs to give us something to build on in the coming weeks."

And if Blake does find himself in a position for a strike on goal, he is hoping that he has got his shooting boots on.
