USERS of Bacup's Aged, Blind and Disabled centre are enduring an anxious wait to see if Rossendale Council can find funds needed to help keep the facility open.
Council leader Graham Pearson is reviewing the books to see if any cash can be provided.
He is looking to attract other user groups to the centre and gain extra council money.
The A, B and D Centre in Burnley Road was among five leisure facilities set to close as part of the plans to save £400,000 from the council budget.
User groups are hoping it will remain open for the next 15 months, until they can create a trust fund to operate the building.
A council spokesman said: "We are very short of money at the moment but Mr Pearson will be doing his best to help provide some sort of funding for the centre."
The situation will be reviewed this week with a final decision being made at the beginning of next week.
