BLACKBURN Hawks gave their visitors from Sunderland Chiefs a one-goal start and then slowly accelerated out of sight to clinch a clear 10-1 win at the Arena.

The win gives Bobby Haig's men a major boost coming on the back of a disappointing league reverse at arch-rivals Altrincham Aces the previous week.

Johnny Heslop was first out of the blocks for the Chiefs, opening the

scoring in the sixth minute.

But incessant pressure from the Hawks paid off, and goals from Neal Haworth and Gordon Whyte gave the hosts a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.

Thereafter it was virtual one-way traffic as the Hawks peppered in 81 shots

on goal compared with the Wearsiders' 13.

Robbie Smith, minding the nets for the Hawks on this occasion, had a relatively easy ride.

The Hawks increased their advantage with strikes from Haig, Wayne Slater and Michael Brunton in the second session.

Turning round at 5-1 up, the Hawks hit five more without reply to run out convincing winners.

Slater hit another and Wes Barnett also got in on the scoring act.

Craig Sharman, returning from injury, hit number eight and Haig grabbed his second before Eddie Cooper skated in to make it double figures and a great night at the office.

The win sets the Hawks up for the next challenge, away to Whitley bay in the Premier Cup on Saturday.
