IT was interesting to read the director of direct services for Blackburn with Darwen decrying the increase of dumping in the back streets of the borough.
I wonder, however, if he is aware of the responsibility of one of the sections in his department's contribution to rubbish in back streets.
Regularly in my area bins and bags are left in the back street uncollected on their designated collection day, and when they are removed no effort is made to clean the spilled refuse.
I appreciate that the problem is parked cars but this has been going on for so many years that you would think that someone would use their initiative and take steps to solve the problem.
The argument used when people were asked to place their own bins in the back street was that if the vehicle could not get to the bin the bin could get to the vehicle.
It might be that more manpower would have to be employed but if money can be wasted on schemes that nobody wants surely money could be found for this essential services.
Also seeing the picture of Janet Anderson using a brush to clean a back street was like a trip down Memory Lane, which museum did they raid to find this archaic piece of equipment?
