Concerning the bus services between the University and the City Centre, last year we had double deckers on the number two route and a year or so earlier the route was supplemented by the number one.

In recent years we have seen these routes ' upgraded'.

The number one has disappeared and the number two has had its double deckers replaced by single deck buses.

The result is that at certain times of the day in term time the new buses are completely full of students going to or from the University.

Passengers are being left at intervening bus stops since the buses are full and people are sometimes being carried past their stops since they cannot fight their way to the entrance in time to get off.

It is true that the new buses are low loading, making it easier for disabled people - a praiseworthy aim.

However, at these times of the day you need to be a super fit rugby scrum half to use the numbers two, three and four buses.

There is no chance if you are disabled.

Another result of these 'improvements' is a decrease in the frequency of buses for passengers along Whinfell Drive and Collingham Park compared to the days when the number two service passed along there.

This 'upgrade' system seems a retrograde step at a time when we are being encouraged to leave our cars at home and use public transport.
