BURNLEY MP Peter Pike wants a ban on domestic fireworks and has backed a Motion which calls for them to be restricted to organised displays.
He is one of more than 80 MPs who want the government to act because of misuse of the explosives.
Speaking after bonfire night he said: "The time has come for the sale of fireworks to be severely restricted as their use has become a continual nuisance to ordinary members of the public over an increasingly extended period around bonfire night.
"I am calling on the government to investigate this issue as a matter or urgency and to make proposals which would restrict the sale and use of fireworks to organised groups who operate safe displays.
"I have been concerned about this for a long time but the problems have been even worse this year.
"I have had lots of complaints from my constituents in Burnley about it and they want a ban on the sale of fireworks to the public.
"There seems to have been more misuse, especially by youngsters. The time has come to act."
