A FEASIBILITY study in to the regeneration of empty shops in Scotland Road and Manchester Road in Nelson town centre is currently being carried out by property consultant Chesterton.
The project forms one of two studies recently commissioned by Pendle Borough Council as part of their overall regeneration strategy for the borough.
The aim of this strategy is to create and maintain vibrant, commercial town centres that support the local economy, attract local people, visitors and new businesses and which form the basis of civic pride and identity.
Councillor Colin Waite, chairman of the Nelson Committee, said: "The study seeks to explore new opportunities which will enhance the appeal of Nelson town centre to the wider community as well as specifically focusing on reoccupying a number of vacant properties on Scotland Road which are giving cause for concern."
The study will involve consultation with local businesses and shoppers will also be given the opportunity to comment on suggested options for the existing vacant floor space, particularly in Scotland Road in the New Year.
