THERAPIST Kathryn Slater is facing the biggest challenge of her life.
The 28-years-old Atherton charity worker is aiming to climb Africa's highest mountain -- and is looking for sponsors.
Kathryn, of Allenby Street, who works as a speech and language therapist for the Wigan Primary Care Trust, is heading for Tanzania in February to take part in the Mount Kilimanjaro Hike Away for Scope, formally the Spastics Society, in aid of people with cerebral palsy.
She will joining a party of fund raisers who will be trekking
for five days to reach the 19,340 ft summit
The route will take them through jungle, moorland and snow, with temperatures ranging from tropical to sub-zero.
Kathryn caught the travel bug after a back packing trip to Australia, where she scaled the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
She said: "I am taking this challenge very seriously and know I will have to be very fit. I am in training at a gym and walking in the Dales and Lake District to make sure that I will be up to it."
Kathryn has pledged to raise £2,600 by December 16 before she can take part in the climb.
She said: "Through sponsorship, car boot sales and small events I am on my way to reaching my target. Obviously the more
money I can raise the more I can help this worthwhile charity."
