A NEW beat bobby's aim is to reduce crime in two communities.

Rugby fan PC Andrew Westwell has taken over the streets of Bedford and Higher Folds from PC John Burns who has transferred to the schools liaison department.

After only a week in the community beat office PC Westwell has already started to meet the community and agency representatives.

The Leigh-born 31-years-old married father of a three-years-old son joined Greater Manchester Police six years ago and has served all his time in the Leigh division.

He said: "My aim is to be pro-active in an attempt to reduce crime and disorder."

He is inviting people on his patch, which covers the Chapel Street and Manchester Road areas as well as Higher Folds, to contact him to discuss any problems.

PC Westwell is an active member of Leigh RU Football Club and a Hilton Park regular.

He said: "Before joining the police I worked for the Inland Revenue for seven years, so I have always been popular!"

He can be contacted on 0161 856 7225.
