A TEENAGE cyclist described how he gave chase to a mugger while his two friends helped the 72-year-old victim.
Good Samaritan Daniel Spensley (16), of Griffin Close, Chesham, was making his way along Massey Street with pals when he saw the attack at 10.20pm on Wednesday last week.
The culprit jumped onto the back of his 72-year-old victim, who had been visiting a friend in Rochdale Road.
The pair fell to the ground and the offender punched his victim in the face demanding money, but was unsuccessful.
As he fled over a fence and the elderly man got to his feet, Daniel realised what was happening.
He gave chase on his mountain bike while pals Michael Beames and Stacey McKenzie helped the victim recover.
St Gabriel's pupil Daniel said: "I was stunned because I have never seen a crime like that before, but I was the only one on a bike so I chased him.
"I thought if I followed him there was more chance that he might be caught.
"People shouldn't get away with things like that."
Daniel lost the culprit near Griffin Close, Bury.
He said: "I felt a bit annoyed that I couldn't catch him up seeing as I was on a bike, but he managed to give me the slip because there were so many different ways he could go."
The offender is described as white, 5ft 6in, wearing a white tracksuit top, tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.
