'Kick racism out of football' was the theme for many a league club this month.

Such events are long overdue and it came at a time when the evil of racism was on display in some European games.

The likes of Heskey, Cole and Marcus Bent all were subjected to horrendous abuse.

So everything is not rosy in the garden. Is this the beginning of a new resurgence of problems? Or is is just confined to the old 'eastern bloc'?

Whilst our clubs may be patting themselves on the back for making sure such behaviour is not repeated here, there is still so much work to do.

It is worth asking if is has racism ever gone away? Here in the UK I have been to many a game when supporters have shouted 'Black B*****D' then turned around and said 'no offence mate'.

In the lower leagues and non-league football the problem still remains one to be dealt with effectively and that won't happen until the senior management of British football decide to take firmer action.

Yes things are better and clubs and authorities have to be commended for programmes such as 'Kick It Out' as these have been very successful.

The racist minority must not be allowed to win because football will indeed be the loser if they ever do.
