BOLTON all rounder Sajid Mahmood has realised his cricketing dream after being signed by Lancashire.
The 20- year-old has been awarded a contract after playing through the junior ranks at Old Trafford
Sajid first came to the attention of the county after impressive displays while playing at Bolton League side Astley Bridge.
That led to him being called up for the Lancashire second team, where he played under the watchful eye of Mike Watkinson, who was later appointed the Red Rose cricket manager.
League representative honours followed as his form improved and he later moved on to another Bolton League side, Egerton, to widen his experience and after more displays for the county's second team, finally made his County Championship debut against Hampshire at Old Trafford.
He had earlier made his first senior appearance in a National League floodlit match, again against Hampshire, after which Watkinson was quick to praise the young player.
"I thought he did pretty well in the match, considering he was making his senior debuts in front of a big crowd and under flood lights.
"We have followed his progress and development very closely over the last few seasons and feel sure he will go on to make a big contribution to Lancashire cricket."
