THE borough will come to a standstill on Sunday (Nov 10) as the world remembers those who have given their lives for our freedom.

Serving and veteran military men and women will be joined by a host of representatives from the emergency services, youth groups as well as national and local Government.

Shortly before 11am, the parades in Bury, Ramsbottom, Tottington, Radcliffe, Whitefield, Unsworth and Prestwich will observe a respectful silence as a tribute to those men and women who died in conflicts down the last century.

The following are details of the parades taking place around the borough.

BURY

The procession will leave Bury Town Hall in Knowsley Street at 10.35am and proceed along Knowsley Street, Haymarket Street and Market Street and make its way to the cenotaph outside Bury Parish Church.

The Last Post will be sounded at 10.58am followed by the Two Minutes Silence, Reveille and wreaths will also be laid around the cenotaph. The Mayor of Bury, Councillor John Smith, will lay a Poppy tribute on behalf of the people of the borough.

The Remembrance Service will be conducted by the Rector of Bury, Dr John Findon.

After the church service, at approximately 12.15pm, the parade will reassemble in The Rock with the uniformed and veteran sections performing a March Past and return to Bury Town Hall.

RAMSBOTTOM

The Royal British Legion led parade will leave Central Street at 10.30am to march to St Paul's CE Church via Bolton Street and Bridge Street. A two-minute silence and wreath-laying ceremony at 11am will be followed by a service in the church. The parade will then re-form in Railway Street and return to the British Legion Club.

TOTTINGTON

A service will take place at 10.30am at St Anne's Church, Tottington. The main Remembrance parade will assemble at 2.30pm at Harwood Road car park, marching to the war memorial at 2.45pm, followed by a service and laying of wreaths.

Refreshments will be served at St Anne's Church hall. A further service will take place at St Anne's Church at 6.30pm, where there will be a roll call.

Remembrance Day will have extra poignancy on Sunday for it will be the last time it will be organised by the Tottington Ex-Servicemen's Association.

PRESTWICH

The Royal British Legion annual Remembrance service and parade in Prestwich will commence at Heaton Park Congregational Church with a service at 9.30am.

Legion members and members of the public are then invited to form up for the parade which leaves the Legion club house in Bury Old Road at 10.30am.

The parade will take the route along Whittaker Lane and Rectory Lane to the cenotaph at PADOS House, where a short service and a minute's silence will be conducted.

WHITEFIELD

The congregation at All Saints Church, Stand, will meet for a service at 10.30am, during which the minute's silence at 11am will be observed.

A procession will leave Church Lane and make its way up to the memorial at Higher Lane at 11.15am where a service will include representations from the Jewish community.

RADCLIFFE

The Radcliffe parade will begin assembling at the Royal British Legion headquarters in Water Street at 10.30am and the procession will set off shortly before 11am.

It will make its way to the cenotaph for the wreath-laying ceremony and the minute's silence before continuing down Blackburn Street to St Thomas' Church for a service.

At approximately 12.20pm the parade will make its way back to the British Legion where it will disperse.

UNSWORTH

Worshippers in Unsworth will leave St George's Church at 10.45am following a normal Sunday service.

A short parade to Unsworth Pole war memorial will take place where wreaths will be laid by the police, councillors and representatives from local scout troops.

EDENFIELD AND STUBBINS

Services will take place at Edenfield Parish Church and St Philip's Church in Stubbins at 10.30am. At 12.30pm, a short service will take place at the small war memorial at Voith Fabrics, Stubbins, followed by the laying of wreaths.

WALSHAW

People will leave Christ Church Walshaw at 10.30am and then assemble round the war memorial at 10.45am. Following a short service and one minute silence, wreaths will be laid at the cross.

The road will be blocked off for a short while.

NOTE TO MOTORISTS: Drivers are asked to respect the occasion and may be requested to switch off their engines during the silent tributes at any of the above services. Traffic delays are expected during the street parades.

METROLINK: In recognition of Manchester's massive Remembrance Day Service and Parade in St Peter's Square, Metrolink will suspend its City Centre service between 10am and 12.15pm. The Altrincham and Eccles service will terminate at G-Mex, although a replacement bus service between the two stations will be in operation. Services operating between Bury and Piccadilly Station will not be affected.
