BOSSES at one of Rossendale's best known construction firms today issued a reassurance the company would remain in the area despite opening new offices in Preston.
Stephen Ashworth, managing director of the Hurstwood Group, said the move would allow the firm to develop the business in the west of the county but that Rossendale would remain "home".
Mr Ashworth, who runs the company with brother and construction director Trevor, said Hurstwood was also expanding and refurbishing its head office in Rawtenstall.
The news comes after it was revealed that up to 100 jobs would go at two local firms. Last week Haslingden-based hatchery Mayfield Chicks, which was ravaged by fire in July, announced it would close with the loss of 45 jobs.
Neighbouring firm Madison Filter, of Knowlsley Road, Haslingden, also announced it is to switch part of its production to Germany, with the loss of a further 47 jobs.
But Mr Ashworth, who lives in Rawtenstall, said Hurstwood remained firm in the area.
He said: "This development underlines the terrific growth the Hurstwood Group has enjoyed in recent years but, while we are looking to expand, we feel proud to be part of the landscape of Rossendale. It is, and will remain, a core area for us."
The Hurstwood Group, established more than 25 years ago, includes all aspects of property development, including design and build, investment and general construction.
It will open new shared offices in Winckley Square, Preston, with insurance broker Swinburne James in the new year.
Mr Ashworth went on: "It makes perfect business sense. Over the past two decades the Hurstwood name has become a byword for high quality building in East Lancashire and, while our headquarters will remain in Rossendale, we believe there are significant opportunities in the west of the county and beyond."
