INNOVATIVE Blackpool company TISS Limited have been named the Fylde's Entrepreneur of the Year.
The company, based on Lytham Road, South Shore picked up the honour during an awards ceremony held by the Guardian Angel Entrepreneurs Network at the Garstang Country Hotel and Golf Club recently. TISS picked up the title and £5,000 prize after developing a ground-breaking electronic security device for curtain-sided trailers -- which helps the haulage industry combat theft and the growing illegal immigrant problem.
The Guardian Angel Network, which administers the award, offers free support and guidance for up-and-coming businesses by putting them in touch with an experienced 'guardian'.
Alex McCracken, managing director of TISS, who collected the prize from Marc Etches of Leisure Parcs, dedicated the win to his company's guardian Mike Turner.
"The award is fantastic for TISS but it is also recognition of the job our Guardian Angel Mike has done for us.
"He has believed in us all the way and, in fact, has become our chairman. Mike was also the first investor.
"We will put the money into developing the marketing and sales of our products."
TISS beat off competition from two other Blackpool companies who had been nominated for the title -- IBS Vehicle Leasing run by Ian Driscoll and Town Casinos which has Chris Darwell at the helm.
"All three companies impressed the judges with their ability, flair and dedication and it was tough picking a winner," says Amanda Meachin of organisers the Guardian Angel Entrepreneurs Network.
