PETER CAVANAGH is revelling in his new role as a wing back - and says the position was made for him.
The 21-year-old came through the Liverpool youth ranks as a right-back, but says he has always been adventurous in getting forward.
"And as Jimmy Bell says," quipped the chirpy Scouser. "I should be able to run up and down the line all day at 21 years old!
Cavanagh left Anfield as a 19-year-old and joined Oldham. But it didn't work out there and he moved to Stanley under John Coleman last season.
"I haven't really ever played at wing-back before but I have always been a quite adventurous full-back."
And after scoring two goals in the last three games he is considering it a positive step.
"You could say I am in a rich vein of form!" he said. "But to be honest we are not playing all that well at the moment but we are picking up results.
"We haven't scored enough goals but hopefully when Lutel comes back from suspension that will change, although he'll have something to say about me taking his penalties!
"We have got a lot of good players at Stanley but we have been surprised at how poor other teams in the league have been this season.
"We've picked up so many wins without playing well so when we do start playing well the other teams will have to hold on to our coat-tails because we will be flying."
Stanley's lead at the top of the UniBond Premier Division was cut to one point on Tuesday night but again went to four after their win over Gateshead.
Cavanagh says the players didn't feel any pressure despite earlier in the season having an eight-point lead at the top.
"We weren't nervous at all because we know the quality inside our squad, we just look after ourselves."
And with Stanley looking favourites for the title - just two years after returning to the UniBond Premier Division - a return to the Football League may not be too far off for the former Anfield Red.
"The plan is to get back into League football," he said. "If I can't get there as regards a move it would give me no greater pleasure than to take Stanley there with me!"
Stanley are without a game tomorrow but manager John Coleman, who was this week linked with former Liverpool and Rovers defender Steve Harkness, says he will have the players in for training.
"Then I will go and watch a game, but I don't know which one yet," he said.
"Nothing has happened with Steve Harkness. I don't know where that story came from and to be honest I think his wages would be a stumbling block for us.
"We have got a lot of quality players at Stanley but at the moment only two or three of them are performing in any one game and we need eight or nine of them to do that.
"We are four points clear again so it is not panic stations. We just need to see some improvement."
