WITH the majority of Labour-controlled local councils refusing to back a legal challenge to the closure of the majority of old folk's homes, it begs the following question.
If the Conservatives controlled Lancashire County Council, and they had voted to close down the homes, would the same local councils maintain that they could not justify the expenditure to fight the closures?
I think you could quite safely gamble on the funding being found!
I believe Councillor Ian Ormerod was a member of Hyndburn's Labour-controlled council when the Borough's stake in Accrington Arndale centre was sold off, similarly Hyndburn Transport and the associated properties.
Where has the money gone from those sales? No doubt to minority politically-correct factions and projects. With the enhanced pensions which Cabinet members of councils now enjoy, they have no need to worry about their own "sunset years."
