SHAKERS 1, TORQUAY 0: SHAKERS' hopes of scoring in 18 consecutive games ended in defeat as Torquay's David Graham hit his 12th goal of the seaon in the 57th minute.
Jon Newby's 90th minute consolation strike in the Worthington Cup defeat at Fulham on Wednesday saw the Shakers equal that club record, achieved in the 1960-61 Third Division championship season.
And after the recent run of six unbeaten games shot them into the top six of the division, manager Andy Preece was desperate for his charges to grab a victory that would keep them among the pacesetters for at least two more weeks.
The Torquay game is followed by a couple of cup matches both at home against Second Division opponents.
Barnsley are the visitors in the LDV Vans Trophy on Tuesday evening, while Plymouth Argyle visit Gigg next Saturday in the first round of the FA Cup.
But that Graham goal saw Shakers slip to 10th spot while Torquay moved up to fourth
