THE cold weather has been no problem for our wildfowl so far, but if it continues species such as the mute swan may find the going tough.
By late December the mute swans which had a good breeding season in 2002, were already showing signs of preparing for the 2003 nesting season, but they need open water to carry out their mating display.
Most pairs of mute swans mate for life which can last for more than 20 years. Let's hope they enjoy a good 2003.
