OVER the last few years, big Victorian dinner services have become increasingly popular at auction.
At one time these big services would have been regarded as Granny's old rubbish and possibly even thrown away.
Now these services are collected for decorative purposes as they look very good indeed on a dresser or in a large cabinet.
The early 19th century Ironstone services are particularly sought-after and especially when they have an Oriental-inspired pattern.
A service much like the one pictured, say, which is early Victorian and, although made in English "ironstone" has an Oriental-inspired pattern, would attract great interest.
American buyers are keen to acquire this type of property.
A full Victorian service will have dinner plates, side plates, tea plates, soup bowls, sauce tureens, covers and stands, large tureens and covers, open dishes, ladles, sauce and gravy boats -- the basic principle is the more the merrier.
A very full service, which would make a wonderful display, could be worth between £5,000 and £10,000 .
