NOW that the Yuletide season is over, things are getting active, if not hectic, on the Forever Buryfront.
A provisional diary of events has been produced for this year which to date lists 26 entries and there are obviously going to be more additions in the coming weeks and months.
For instance, there is no entry for an annual meeting yet. No doubt that event will be fixed for a day after the end of the season. However, we have to "accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative" as Bing Crosby used to advocate.
In that spirit, we mention that the troops are being mustered for the long heralded membership drive. Members are being asked to assemble at the ground at 1.30pm tomorrow, prior to the game with Oxford United. Forever Bury members who have not received a personal invitation, but who would like to join in, please turn up. Wouldn't it be great to have a huge turnout?
Incidentally, that self-same day is Ladies Day at Gigg Lane when Bury Girls and Ladies' FC will be welcomed to the ground. More details elsewhere in the paper.
There is a race night in the Social Club on Friday, February 7. Strictly speaking, this is a Bury FC event rather than a Supporters' Trust function, but Forever Bury members are giving the event full backing.
On Thursday, February 20, Forever Bury Quiz Night will be held at the Social Club, 8.30pm. £5 for a team of five people but of course, you don't have to be a team of five to take part, If you are alone and can answer the sample question ("Who was Bing Crosby"), no doubt you will fit in somewhere.
The first of a series of car boot sales at Gigg Lane starts on Sunday, March 2. A joint enterprise between Bury FC and Forever Bury. These are to be run on the first Sunday of the month throughout the summer, starting at 8am. It is the early bird who gets the bargains, apparently.
Perhaps that is enough to be going on with, except to mention that in May there will be a Treasure Hunt at Burrs Country Park, and in August there will be another Duck Race event, also at Burrs.
The first one last year was amazingly successful, raising more than £6000. Apart from the welcome boost to income, it cheered up the membership no end after previous events had been blighted by power failures and torrential downpours.
