In July, 1975, Keith Dawson, aged 25, left, of Hillside Avenue, Atherton, had to scratch from a charity race at Horwich when his 1935 Rudge let him down at the last minute.
He should have joined 16 riders from firms associated with the motor trade in the Bolton area to pedal 6 miles to raise £50 for the Guide Dogs for the Blind.
