A WRESTLING promoter who was forced to cancel a show in Blackburn after the fight ring failed to appear has apologised to 400 fans.

John Farrer, of Global Wrestling Force Promotions, said the ring did not arrive at the King George's Hall show, despite booking two different companies. He said: "The first van broke down at 3pm, and then the back-up company broke down as well."

Despite improvising a small show with the wrestlers and compere Ted Robbins, of Phoenix Nights' fame, the show had to be cancelled.

But the East Lancashire promoter promised a full refund to fans who had paid up to £25 and said he hoped to be able to come to Blackburn again.

Police and staff had to search fans for weapons before the start of the show and found items including ironing boards and kitchen sinks.

Mr Farrer, 20, said "I've staged numerous events since I started promoting in 2001 and this is the first time this has happened.

"I feel terrible, I feel I've let everybody down - the fans, King George's Hall, the wrestlers, everyone. All I can do is apologise and offer a full refund"
