POST-September 11, 2001, we find the Taliban dumped, Al-Quaeeda evicted from Afghanistan and Bin Laden in hiding.
Iraq forms the next agenda. Reputedly, it has no links to Al-Quaeeda and is not currently a threat to its neighbours or Western interests. If the pretence for war against Iraq is weapons banned under the Geneva Convention, this is hogwash. Yet, the US has displayed an awesome presence with more hardware on its way.
For support it can count on a few obscure advocates in this exercise. Britain has reluctantly opted with its traditions. The US, we are told, will and can go it alone. No doubt traffic will be one-way, not to mention the humanitarian crisis.
However, there is no UN mandate for a regime change in Iraq and anything thus is a violation of a sovereign nation.
Russia, China, France and Germany have voiced strong concerns. If there is anything we can say before the event it is that might is right and naked aggression will be the order of the day. This is dangerous.
N MOMONIAT (Mr), (address received).
