HILTON Dawson MP has come up with an interesting suggestion in relation to congestion charges for Lancaster.
In theory it has merits but, realistically, it will not curb the gridlock in Lancaster and is clearly unworkable.
Certainly, people who reside in Morecambe and travel to Lancaster will object to such a scheme.
A localised scheme in Lancaster will penalise people on low incomes and pensioners who rely on their cars to access services and shops.
The idea of congestion charges needs to be put to one side and local politicians, regardless of party colours, need to support the most obtainable solution to the traffic gridlock - and that is, of course, the Western bypass.
Geraldine Smith MP has been championing the case for a bypass since being elected. It is essential for the economic development of the district and will enhance the option for people to travel to work out of Morecambe.
Cllr David Whittaker,
Alexandra Ward
